And just like that, it's April! WHAT?!!! Well, I tried so hard to be better about updating my blog and have done a not-so-great-job of it....per the usual. I will get better one day and that's all I can hope for.
Students have been busy finalizing art work before the end of the school year. 5th graders are finishing up a study of proportion and texture, 3rd and 4th grades are working on t-shirt designs for a contest for the October 7, 2017 Due West Dash--EXCITING! Finalists and overall winner(s) will be announced sometime after May 3 and and receive their awards. 2nd grade has been working with clay but the rest is a surprise for our esteemed principal, Mrs. Flemming (more to come soon). 1st graders are also working with clay as a follow-up to their 2-dimensional Pop Art piece with Wayne Thiebaud as their inspiration. And, finally, Kindergarten has been learning about relief sculpture this week.
Whew--that's a lot!! With more to come. Let's finish strong Due West artists!!!
Below is a link to your special invite. It has all pertinent information including pricing.
We are quickly making it through the year in art....too quickly! :) Grade levels are busy creating different pieces and we just had our 1st ever "Pin-Up Art Show" with 4th grade last week. The students were very excited to see their totem pole pieces in the hall. I hope you have all had the opportunity to see what great 4th grade artists we have here at Due West!

Seems like it should at least be October, right?!!! Not because I wish it was just seems strange to think we have been in school 4.5 weeks and it's still only August and still 95 degrees! Great things are happening in the art room. We are gearing up for our 1st Annual 4th grade Pin-Up Art Show on the evening of Thursday, October 13 along with their PTA music performance. The artwork presented with also be uploaded onto Artsonia for opportunities to purchase keepsake items with your 4th graders artwork on it...more information to come!
Check out the individual grade level pages from the "ART GALLERY" drop-down to see what your child's specific grade level is creating in art.

You are probably wondering about the email you received yesterday asking you to grant permission for your child's art work to be uploaded/displayed on Artsonia's wesite. Another email went out today with further explanation, but I also wanted to provide a link for you here...direct to Artsonia---Here is a direct link for information about ARTSONIA: artsonia.com/arnews/XMDKFNMZ . Please let me know if there are any questions!
The last couple of weeks in art have been awesome! Your children are learning even more about being "true" artists. Check out the drop downs for each grade level to see what your child(ren) are doing.
I also wanted to share with you something new we are starting this year at Due West. Each grade level will be having a "Pin Up" Art Show on the same evening as their PTA music performance. More information will come about this when your child(ren's) show is getting close. (4th grade is first in September!!!) My hope is that their art is more available and visible to you for longer periods of time. We will still have our whole school Artome show (framed art work) on December 1, 2016 so no worries on that!
Along with the Pin-Up Shows, we will be utilizing Artsonia, the world's largest student art museum! Artsonia is a free, safe, educational program designed to connect parents and families with their child's creative activities at school. Similar to Square 1, you will be able to access a number of items to order with your child(ren's) artwork on them. This will act as an on-going fundraiser throughout the school year and you will be notified through Artsonia when artwork has been uploaded. I am excited for you about this new opportunity!!! My hope is that eventually we will be able to keep a digital portfolio of ALL of your child's(ren's) artwork for availability to you. Won't that be fun?!!!
One more thing....

Looking forward to week 2 with finishing up journals/sketchbooks in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades....finishing up a little project with 1st and 2nd grades (They are helping me with a bulletin board) and Kindergarten will get to see what their "magic" is going to be. Look for it in the Kindergarten halls next week!!!
Classes are off to a great start this week! 3rd, 4th and 5th graders have been painting...speaking of which....
