If you aren't aware yet, this year Specials are on a 6 day rotation which means that your child's(ren) art days are NEVER on the same day of the week every week!! WHAT???!!!! A little confusing, but....I think I like it!!!
Thank you for visiting The Pioneer Palette blog where great art is to be shared with everyone!
Please check out "ABOUT ART @ DUE WEST " for more information on what each grade level is creating and for grading. I've also added a fun ART LINKS/APPS page that I think the students will enjoy!
ABOUT THE PIONEER PALETTE STUDIO:
Students in grades K-5 will participate in a more 'traditional' art classroom however there will be plenty of opportunity for creativity and ownership of their art. While a 'traditional' art program is definitely more teacher-directed, I encourage students to work from a set of standards-based objectives to create art that is unique to him or her. The goal is to offer choices and problem-solving opportunities to all students all of the time.
When your child comes home with something they have created some questions you may want to ask about their learning are: What did you learn while you were making your art? How did you come up with the idea for your art? What do you like most about your art? What steps did you take in creating your art?
Through this process, your artists will learn to become comfortable talking about their art and with art in general. When they can recognize these things in their art processes they become better artists. This will help them when they become involved in choosing the art they would like others to see whether in the studio or in shows at Due West or in the community!
STUDIO HELPERS WANTED:
If you are interested, I am always looking for parents to assist in the studio. If you are interested in being a studio helper and working with Due West's budding artists, I would love for you to come for a day (or even an hour if that is all you can spare) - NO ART EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
STUDIO SUPPLIES WELCOME:
The following is a list of supplies (a.k.a. trash :)) that are always welcome in any art room: yogurt/sour cream containers (well washed please), small containers with lids, cardboard scraps, fabric scraps, cardboard tubes, yarn, egg cartons (preferably styrofoam), and anything else you think could be recycled for use in our studio. Can also use paper towels and baby wipes!!!
CONTACT MRS WATERS:
I am always available if you have any questions or comments. Just click the "EMAIL MRS WATERS" mail icon at the top of any page or by calling the school. I look forward to a great year with your young artists!

A LITTLE ABOUT MRS WATERS
I began teaching art in Pennsylvania in 1993. I taught JR/SR HS art there for 2 years followed by teaching elementary art in NC for 5 years. I am about to enter my 10th year of teaching although I had about 12 years 'off' somewhere along the way! I enjoy teaching art and love to see the excitement in children's eyes at the moment they realize that they are artists! I truly believe that art is not always about the 'finished piece' but often it is about the process one takes in getting there.
