Summary:
Students will create a mosaic using bits of paper and these bits of paper will create a dot.
Objectives:
- Working with mosaic and reverse images
- This is a wonderful project that shows how confidence breeds confidence!
What You Need:
- The Dot, by Peter Reynolds (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Clpw7PG7m1Q)
- paper (in any color student wishes)
- Bits of colored paper (students can cut or tear bits)
- Glue stick
- circle template (round lid, cut paper circle, etc)
What You Do:
This lesson is based on The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds. In this story, Vashti is convinced that she cannot draw. Her art teacher encourages her to just make a mark and see where it takes her.
- Obtain circle template of some sort (round lid, cut paper circle, etc)
- With tape, lightly adhere the circle template to the center of the colored paper of choice.
- Now, with the glue stick adhere the bits of paper all around the circle template. You want the bits to be as close together as you can, but not overlapping. Get as close as you can to the dot, without having the paper bits touch it. Be sure to NOT use colored paper bits that are the same color as your background.
- Remove the circle template and you have made a black dot without actually making a dot! Upload a photo to Artsonia.com when complete.
